The Minnesota Twins have made some interesting roster moves ahead of the start of their Wild Card matchup with the Houston Astros on Tuesday.

Third baseman Josh Donaldson was left off the playoff roster due to an issue with his right calf. This means Donaldson will be unavailable for the entirety of the best-of-three series, a huge blow to Minnesota's lineup.

However, there is some good news for the Twins. Center fielder Byron Buxton will be available after suffering a mild concussion on Friday.

The calf issue has loomed large for Donaldson the entire season (via Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press):

Donaldson, the Twins’ third baseman, was officially ruled out Tuesday morning when the team left him on the taxi squad after he spent the day prior testing out his right calf. Donaldson suffered calf cramping on Friday night, forcing him to leave that game early.

Donaldson notably strained his right calf earlier this season, causing him to miss a whole month of the two-month season, and has had injury issues with both of his calves in the past. Donaldson took batting practice and did agility testing on the field Monday during the team’s workout.

Donaldson's Twins career got off to a terrible start, as he had a .614 OPS in his first seven games before heading to the injured list.

But the former American League MVP had a .925 OPS in his final 21 games in September, giving the Twins some added firepower.

Minnesota will be glad to have Buxton in the fray. The former No. 1 overall pick has always displayed excellent glove work. However, Byron Buxton has also been a danger at the plate with eight homers and a 1.022 OPS in September.
