The Minnesota Twins' season has encountered an unfortunate roadblock. After their signing of star shortstop Carlos Correa, the team seemed to be on the right track. They were sitting pretty at first place in the AL Central. All signs seemed to point at them breaking their long playoff streak this season.

Unfortunately for them, their star signing is set to miss significant time. After getting hit by a pitch against the Orioles, the Twins announced that Carlos Correa has suffered a finger injury (a non-displaced fracture, in particular). Further tests will reveal the true extent of the injury. However, it's safe to say that this injury will keep Correa out of action for an extended period. (via Dan Hayes)

Correa has been a pretty good addition for the Twins, who signed him to a massive deal in the off-season. Alongside the returning Byron Buxton and Gary Sanchez, they've started the season strong. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, they looked primed and ready to take the AL Central and make it to the playoffs.

That's not to say that the Twins' season is doomed with Carlos Correa's injury. They have enough talent on both sides to survive without the ex-Astros star. However… that task will become harder as the weeks go by, especially if the White Sox regain their form from last season. It's going to be a tough road ahead for this team.

Buxton and Sanchez will likely take the brunt of the offensive load without Correa. On the other side, the Twins' pitching staff will have to step up big time in the following weeks.
