NBC partners with Twitch to make sure that they reach younger demographics for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. According to a report by Sports Business Journal, NBC will have a dedicated Twitch channel covering the Olympics.

However, before anyone gets too excited, the partnership doesn't mean that you'll get to watch the live events on Twitch. There are way too many simultaneous events, after all. The games' opening ceremony will also not be broadcasted on the platform. Instead, the channel will focus on daily highlight shows and athlete interviews, Engadget reports. There will also be Olympics-themed gaming competitions and will feature talents from Twitch as well as the NBC Olympics Team. Twitch will be taking inspiration from the “passion and competition” of the Olympic Games in producing content for the channel.

Of course, the channel aims to make use of Twitch's best features to make the live streams interesting. It will reportedly have interactive elements and will have polls and Q&As. The week before the start of the Olympic Games, there will also be a virtual Olympic Torch that viewers can keep alive by being active on the channel's chat. The channel will then host a preshow before the Olympic Games' Opening Ceremony featuring Twitch streamers.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics originally had a schedule of July 24 to August 9, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Olympic Committee postponed the event to July 23 to August 8, 2021.
