This weekend the Oklahoma Sooners are welcoming back their former quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield. During the trip back to Norman, the Sooners are set to honor Mayfield with the unveiling of a statue in his likeness that will reside in Oklahoma's “Heisman Park”. The tradition of honoring Sooner Heisman Trophy winners began in 2005 when the university decided to place each winner’s statue on the east side of Gaylord Memorial Stadium.

At the unveiling ceremony on Friday, the world got its first look at the Baker Mayfield statue, and Twitter reacted

The statue drew some glaring comparisons…

…and even some nods to a little Cleveland Browns humor…

Queue the Baker Mayfield movie references…

…even a Hall of Fame reference for Baker Mayfield!

Needless to say, folks were less than inspired by the statue dedicated to Baker Mayfield by his alma mater. One would think that after winning the 2017 Heisman Trophy and throwing for 12,292 yards and 119 touchdowns in three seasons as a Sooner would get you a pretty snazzy piece. Unfortunately for Oklahoma and the $89,000 it reportedly spent on the statue, it can only be assumed that the sculptor was a Texas Longhorns fan and that they could be on the look for a new artist when they are set to honor Kyler Murray in the next ceremony.
