Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue and Golden State Warriors‘ acting coach Mike Brown go way back, as far back as the $100 a young Lue owed him during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers as a rookie.

Now in the biggest possible stage of his coaching career, the 40-year-old bench tactician recalled his lost bet and how it all began.

Via Cleveland.com's Chris Fedor:

“I owe him $100 from when I was a rookie,” according to Lue. “I try to pay him and he’ll never take the money so he can say I always owe him. He was with the Spurs and I was with the Lakers, and we had a little shooting contest and I lost and he wouldn’t take the money, so from now 19 years in a row he says, ‘You owe me $100.’ He won’t take the money, but I’ve just always been close with Mike. I like Mike a lot. I respect him a lot. I had a chance to workout his son a lot at Impact in Vegas over the summer. Mike’s a good guy. I like and respect him a lot.”

This is one of the many funny stories that involve very humorous antics, most recently getting stopped by police in his way to Oracle Arena, only to get a good, hearty laugh out of Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, despite the tension throughout the series.

“Every time I see him. ‘You owe me $100.’ I try to pay, he won’t take it,” Lue insisted.

Sometimes lifetime bragging rights are worth more than the cash they could bring in, especially when Lue is forced to tell the story in full and admit he lost in a shooting competition to an assistant coach.
