Switzerland will be hosts to Spain on the third matchday of the UEFA Nations League A, as the Swiss will try to find a way back into the group and the Spaniards a return to the top. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our Nations League odds series, which includes our Switzerland-Spain prediction and pick we have laid out below.

Switzerland opened this edition of the UEFA Nations League in a terrible way. Losing to Portugal was somewhat expected, as it was assumed that it will be Portugal and Spain vying over the first two spots. However, they also lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic, putting them in danger of potentially relegating down to Nations League B. Spain, on the other hand, also opened poorly, but not in the same way. They had two draws, one in which they saw all three points escape through an 82nd-minute equalizer, and one in which they were the beneficiary of a late equalizing goal. Now, both teams have a shot at reaching their first win.

Why Switzerland Could Win This Game

As explained above, it has been tough for the Swiss team. Switzerland lost two games and while the Portugal loss was straightforward, the Czech Republic sneaked a 2-1 win through an own goal by Djibril Sow. Now, with two losses in two games, Switzerland's team really knows they are up against it. One more loss could mean that a place in the UEFA Nations League A is in danger, so they will need some positive results, starting from this match versus Spain.

Of course, talent-wise, Switzerland have nowhere near the talent this Spain team have. However, they can match them in experience. Out of the entire Switzerland squad, most of the players are proven guys in some of the toughest leagues in the world. The backbone of the squad comprises Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka, and Ricardo Rodriguez, to name a few. All of them have a ton of games, both for club and country, and they know how to play with their back against the wall.

It will be tough, beyond any doubt. Spain have one of the best teams in the world. However, the motivation of having to hold on to their UEFA Nations League A spot will surely drive Switzerland to play noticeably better than in the first two games. It might not end up in a win, but any positive result would be huge for the Swiss team in this game.

Why Spain Could Win This Game

This Spain team is nowhere near close to the quality they had in their hay day when Spain won two EUROs and a World Cup, all in a row. However, this is still an amazing team, certainly better than two points in two games. While they will feel like the first three points were snapped outside of their reach in the first game, it was their poor play that almost cost them everything in the second game. Now, they are out for revenge.

If they do not win this game, it could be Spain in danger of dropping down to UEFA Nations League B. They actually won their group in the last edition of the Nations League, but it could be a different scenario this time. Thus, the biggest reason why Spain could win this game is that they need to win it, and there are no excuses available if they do not. Losing here would put Spain dead last and while they would have games to play, it would not be an easy task for the Spaniards.

Last, but certainly not least, a major reason why Spain could win this game is their talent. A combination of youngsters and experienced international players, the roster of this Spain is still formidable, in terms of European football. They are much better than their results in the first two games and they should use this chance versus Switzerland to show it to the world.

Final Switzerland-Spain Prediction & Pick

Despite their poor form, it would be very hard to neglect Spain and their immaculate players in this regard. Poor results aside, they are a very strong team and should be one of the top contenders out of Europe for the World Cup in Qatar. Our final Switzerland-Spain prediction is a Spain victory at Stade de Genève in Geneve, Switzerland.

Final Switzerland-Spain Pick: Spain (-120)
