With the brand new Champions League campaign quickly approaching, UEFA has announced its nominees for Player of the Year. By no surprise, two Chelsea players and a Man City star are all in the running:

UEFA Player of the Year Nominees

Kevin De Bruyne was fantastic last term for City, helping them win a Premier League title and progress to the Champions League Final, where he, unfortunately, exited early due to injury in a defeat to Chelsea. The Belgian was also key for the Red Devils at UEFA Euro 2020, scoring once and providing two assists.

Jorginho is likely the clear frontrunner to win Player of the Year after a magical season for both club and country. The midfielder was an important part of Chelsea's UEFA Champions League triumph in Porto then he marched into the Euros and dazzled for Italy, who lifted the ultimate prize after beating England in the final. Many believe that Jorginho should be a favorite to win the Ballon d'Or as well after such a terrific season.

Kante, another Blues player, is also a mainstay in the middle of the pitch for the UCL title-holders. He also played for France at Euro 2020, but they were shockingly eliminated by Switzerland in the Round of 16.

The UEFA Player of the Year winner will be announced on Thursday, August 26th at the Champions League draw.

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski won the prestigious award in 2020.
