Michael O’Keefe is getting a real shot at caddying during a professional event — sort of. The actor who played Danny Noonan in the 1980 golf comedy “Caddyshack” will be on the bag for a few practice rounds at the 2020 U.S. Open at New York’s Winged Foot Golf Club.

O'Keefe will be caddying for Danny Balin, who is the top professional at Fresh Meadow Country Club. This won't be O'Keefe's first time on the bag, though. As a native of Larchmont, New York, the 65-year-old caddied at nearby Winged Foot in 1971 and '72.

As part of a self-written post for Golf.com, O'Keefe announced that he was making himself available:

Now, almost a half-century later, I’m ready to take my caddying to the next level. I’m serving notice that I’m available for, interested in and worthy of carrying a bag for any professional (or amateur) in the field at this year’s U.S. Open.

Balin saw O'Keefe's message and offered him a spot in the practice rounds leading up to the U.S. Open:

“I try to take this somewhat serious, so I would never do this during a tournament round,” Balin said, via the New York Post. “But I was like, ‘Yeah, this will be cool. Danny Noonan. Monday and Tuesday.’ It’ll be a fun couple of days. It’ll lighten the mood up.”

O'Keefe, who was spotted wearing his famous Bushwood Country Club hat, elaborated on why he wanted to take this venture:

“Why now?” O'Keefe wrote in his piece for Golf.com. “If not now, I may never have another chance! I’m 65 and not getting any younger, though my wife tells me I’m still devilishly handsome.”

Let's see if Noonan brings good luck to Balin at the 2020 U.S. Open. At the very least, it will be a fun experience.
