Former Masters champion Patrick Reed had an explosive first round at the 2020 U.S. Open Championship at Winged Foot.

Reed was one over par when he came to the tee at the par-3 seventh hole, but his round quickly took a turn for the better.

The 30-year-old flighted down an iron, which hit the green and promptly one-hopped into the cup for a stunning ace (via USGA).

Reed's stunning hole-in-one totally changed the complexion of his round.

The man who has become known as “Captain America” for his Ryder Cup heroics stampeded his way to a four under par score of 66, just one back of clubhouse leader Justin Thomas.

Reed made birdies on holes 12, 13 and 15 before displaying some excellent scrambling abilities to close with three straight pars. He is in good position to make a run at his second major championship after winning at Augusta in 2018.

Reed's ace was the second of his PGA career and the 46th in the history of the U.S. Open.

Interestingly enough, Reed was not the only player to make an ace at the seventh hole.

Top Korn Ferry player Will Zalatoris also provided some fireworks with a hole-in-one of his own after finding the bottom of the cup.

Other stars have begun their rounds, with varying results.

Tiger Woods battled all day but finished three over par after finishing with a bogey on 17 and a double bogey on 18.

World No. 1 and FedEx Cup champion Dustin Johnson was two over through his first 12 holes, while No. 2 Jon Rahm was two under through 11 holes.

The action is heating up in Mamaroneck, New York.
