Shelby Rogers just pulled off a huge upset in the 2021 US Open after she successfully took down world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in the third round. Guess, you can also say Shelby crashed the Barty.

Rogers got it going right away. She took the first set, 6-2. Barty fought back in the second set before Rogers sealed the deal in the third for a final score of 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5).

With the victory, Rogers has booked a ticket to the fourth round of the US Open, where she will meet 18-year-old Emma Raducanu of Great Britain.

This isn't the first loud upset in the women's bracket of the 2021 US Open. Prior to that, No. 3 Naomi Osaka fell prey to Canada's Leylah Fernandez.

A win over Raducanu would mean another quarterfinals appearance for Rogers, who also reached that round in 2020. So far in her Grand Slam career, she has only managed to reserve a ticket in the quarterfinals two times. She has never advanced past that in any Slam events, though. Before eliminating Barty, Rogers took out Madison Brengle in the first round and Sorana Cirstea in the second.

As for Barty, the loss to Rogers meant that she's missed a shot at winning two consecutive Grand Slam titles. She topped the 2021 Wimbledon back in July.
