Riot Games shared in a tweet that VALORANT Masters Berlin will pivot to an eight-team Knockouts stage for the playoffs. This is in contrast to the original plan of having only four teams in the playoffs. The format will remain to be a single-elimination bracket.
“Based on player and fan feedback, the #VALORANTMasters Berlin knockout stage will pivot to an eight-team single elimination bracket and remove the final match of group play. Additional details on the format will be shared next week.”
Because of the VALORANT Masters Berlin format change, the last match for the group stages will no longer be played. The group stages will see all participating teams competing in four double-elimination brackets. Before, only the top team emerging from these brackets will head to the Knockouts stage. With the format change, two teams will now proceed: the winner of the upper bracket finals, and the winner of the lower bracket finals.
The VALORANT Masters Berlin tournament will feature the most prominent VALORANT teams around the world, including defending champions Sentinels. It serves as a Major tournament and will culminate in the VALORANT Champions this November, which will serve as a world championship tournament. The tournament will kick off on LAN this September 10, 2021.
