The Boston Celtics managed to secure a late victory over the Brooklyn Nets thanks to an impressive showing from deep by guard Marcus Smart and center Aron Baynes. Head coach Brad Stevens even sarcastically labeled them as Boston's version of the ‘Splash Brothers' afterward.

Smart and Baynes connected on six 3-pointers on the night. Stevens even jokingly dubbed them the ‘Splash Brothers' for their efforts from deep in the 2018-19 NBA season, via ESPN:

“Those are our splash brothers,” Stevens said. “Baynes probably puts up as many attempts in practice as anybody on our team so it’s good to see those go down. Marcus has been shooting great all year. Every time Marcus lets it go you feel good about it.”

While there is clearly a sarcastic tone to Stevens' comments, there is also some truth to them. The deep ball prowess of Smart and Baynes has been one of the more surprising developments this season. It appears Stevens would like to keep it moving forward.

Smart has never been known for his touch from deep. In fact, it had been quite the opposite up until now. The renowned defensive specialist is now shooting a career-best 36.3 percent from three-point land this season. More importantly, his outing versus the shows that he can produce when he needs to.

Meanwhile, Baynes has made some significant strides in his three-point shot. The big man attempted just 21 three-pointers last season. He is already up to 46 this year and is doing it at a career-best 31.7 percent. While they may pale in comparison to the original ‘Splash Brothers' with the Golden State Warriors, the improvement from both Smart and Baynes could pay huge dividends down the stretch.
