Los Angles Lakers sophomore guard Lonzo Ball gave viewers of the Dallas Mavericks-Lakers matchup some early fireworks with a thunderous dunk.

The Mavericks rim protector DeAndre Jordan wanted no part of the highlight, stepping away at the last moment and allowing Ball to finish the dunk with ease.

While the dynamic guard does provide frequent highlights, they are usually of the passing variety. Ball is such a skilled passer that it's easy to forget how athletic he is.

Even though he produced an excellent highlight Monday night, the eldest of the Ball brothers has had a forgettable season thus far. Fans that wanted to see major improvements from his rookie season have so far been disappointed.

Ball's numbers have actually decreased in his sophomore season, and he is currently posting a line of 9.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, five assists, and 1.4 steals per game. All of these numbers are lower than his freshman year numbers.

Of course, some of these decreases can be attributed to Ball mostly ceding point guard duties to LeBron James when he is on the floor. He no longer needs to be a deadly scorer, but it still alarming that Ball has not shown marked improvement, especially in the three-point and free throw percentage areas.

The Lakers have struggled recently in James' absence, and they will look to bounce back with a win tonight in Dallas. If the night contains more highlights like the one above, the team will have a good shot to pull it off.
