Patriots superstar Julian Edelman went on The Ellen Show and allowed the eponymous host to shave his beard for the benefit of charity!

The Super Bowl MVP has made his beard part of a rather iconic look for himself, but that all changed as of today.

The receiver said that he was looking to create a whole “gnarly” look as he prepared for the Super Bowl.

Julian Edelman spoke to Ellen DeGeneres in an interview segment that aired today. The first thing she brought up was the beard when she asked how long he'd planned to keep it.

He responded by saying he wasn't sure, that he was feeling it out, and that he was selling T-shirts that featured the beard.

“It's growing on me,” he said, unironically.

That wasn't enough for Ellen, who told Edelman that if he'd shaved the beard right then and there, on her show, she'd donate $10,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of America.

Edelman agreed, and said he'd match the $10,000.

Through the magic of television, a barber's chair with full beard-trimming accoutrements and a cape with a Patriots logo suddenly appeared for our host and her guest. But before she began shaving the beard, Ellen asked Julian Edelman if he'd had anything to say before she got rid of the beard for good.

“I love you, beard,” he said, looking into the mirror as the audience cheered him on. “It's been a hell of a year.”
