Sam Darnold is back! I guess that means the following question should be about whether or not he's elite, right?

A week removed from not exactly looking like the touted Heisman Trophy candidate he is, Sam Darnold hurled the pigskin around the football field with relative ease on Saturday. The quarterback, who threw for four touchdowns and finished 21-for-26 passing for 316 yards, was in a real groove.

It wasn't just the gunslinger, though he did aid in others helping. He found Deontay Burnett twice for touchdowns in the second quarter alone. Burnett finished with nine receptions for 121 yards and two scores.

Here is a video of Darnold looking worthy of a Heisman vote:

Running away from defenders, throwing off his back foot, and yet it resulted in a score. That is some beautiful bean footage.

The Trojans defeated the Cardinal 42-24 on Saturday night. It was a game between two top 15 teams in the polls, with USC now taking its place atop the Pac-12 Conference standings with the win.

Stanford senior quarterback Keller Chryst finished 15-for-28 for 172 yards and two touchdowns. His numbers don't scream impressiveness, but one has to remember that Stanford isn't exactly known for an Arena Football League style of offense.

The tough home matchups will not slow any time soon for the Trojans, who will host the Texas Longhorns next week. USC’s next conference game is on the road against the Cal Golden Bears on Sept. 23.

The Cardinal will have to rebound with another road game next weekend as they take on the San Diego State Aztecs. Stanford's next conference game comes against UCLA at home on Sept. 23.
