The lowly Phoenix Suns have played some impressive basketball as of late. Despite owning the league's second-worst record, over the past few weeks, the Suns have shown signs of greater things to come. One key development for the Suns has been Kelly Oubre Jr.'s impressive performance as of late. On Saturday night, the small forward flashed his true talent with a highlight-reel slam against the New Orleans Pelicans.

On the Suns' last possession of the first quarter, Oubre Jr. got the ball at the corner. He dribbled down the baseline before throwing down a ridiculous slam over defender Jahlil Okafor. The play was especially impressive given Okafor's height advantage — the New Orleans center is listed at 6'11”, while Oubre Jr. stands at 6'7″.

Oubre Jr. has been fantastic as a semi-regular for the Suns this season. He has averaged 16.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists since his acquisition from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Trevor Ariza. The former first-round pick is only 23, and Phoenix is hopeful that this is just the beginning of his breakout.

While the team's 16-54 record entering Saturday places them dead last in the Western Conference, they are no longer a pushover. In the past two weeks alone, the team pulled off upset victories against both conference leaders – the Milwaukee Bucks and the Golden State Warriors. In addition, they fell just short of a third upset when they lost to the Houston Rockets by a score of 108-102 on Friday night.

Between their recent signs of life and improved play from key pieces like Oubre Jr., the future looks bright for the Suns.
