The Minnesota Vikings are revving up their preparation for an all-important divisional round matchup against the New Orleans Saints this coming Sunday, but at least one member of the team in cornerback Terence Newman is currently deemed as questionable to play, Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk has reported.

Cornerback Terence Newman is the only player who received an injury designation for the game. The veteran cornerback is listed as questionable due to a foot injury. Newman had limited practices on Wednesday and Friday, but didn’t practice at all on Thursday.

Newman is playing on a one-year contract with the Vikings, and he has not ruled out completely the possibility of this season being his last in the NFL. At 39 years old, Newman remains a quality asset for the Vikings and is even regarded by Pro Football Focus as an above average performer in his position.

The Vikings need all hands on deck against Drew Brees and New Orleans’ prolific offense that surgically dissected the Carolina Panthers’ stop unit in the Wild Card round. Newman’s experience could bring plenty to the table in terms of containing the Saints’ downfield threats, but in case he won’t be able to give it a go, the Vikings will increase their usages of Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander.

Terence Newman, who is in his third year with Minnesota, has been selected to two Pro Bowl teams (2007, 2009). The Kansas State product has 42 interceptions overall since being selected fifth overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2003 NFL Draft.
