Miscommunication abounds in Minnesota between Vikings' head coach Mike Zimmer and star running back Dalvin Cook.

Zimmer, who recently signed an extension with the Vikings, stated on Saturday that he was told Cook would be present for the start of training camp. Zimmer noted that he was told this by Cook himself that the latter would be present on Tuesday when camp opens.

Cook's agent Zac Hiller, on the other hand, had other things to say regarding Cook's status. Hiller presented this statement to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

“First, congrats to Coach Zimmer on his well-earned extension. However, Dalvin has not spoken to him in regards to reporting to camp. We are unsure why this was said. I hope Dalvin can continue to play a major role in the Vikings future success.”

This is the latest in a saga that has been going on since early June, when reports surfaced that Cook would hold out until he received a “reasonable” contract. This season especially makes it harder on those who choose to hold out.

If Cook does not report to camp on the 28th, he'll be subjected to a $50,000 fine per day of camp that he misses. He will also automatically lose a year of credit towards free agency. Holding out might hurt Cook in the long run in other ways as well, as it may hurt his relationship with general manager Rick Spielman. The team also has a young running back in Alexander Mattison waiting in the wings as well.

With the deck stacked against him, it would seem unlikely that Dalvin Cook would hold out training camp. But as far as his agent is concerned, it isn't out of the question. Only time will tell whose account of events is accurate.
