The Minnesota Vikings were dealt a major blow after linebacker Anthony Barr was ruled out for the remainder of the 2020 NFL season with a torn pectoral. Fortunately, he has since managed to provide a positive update on his status.

The Vikings posted a picture of Barr confirming his successful surgery, via the team's official website:

Barr has long served as a pillar for this Vikings defense given his role as the versatile shot-caller. Although losing him for the year leaves a rather notable void to fill, it is encouraging to see that he has successfully taken the first step toward a full recovery.

Aside from Barr, the linebacker corps lost another piece in rookie Troy Dye after he was placed on injured reserve due to an ankle injury he suffered in Week 2. As a result, Minnesota went out and signed veteran linebacker Todd Davis to shore up some depth for this group.

Regardless, it is linebacker Eric Wilson that will be taking over Barr's responsibilities on the edge. His experience as a spot-starter in this defense should help serve as a stabilizing factor. Linebackers Ryan Connelly and Hardy Nickerson Jr. could also take on an increased role behind Wilson and All-Pro Eric Kendricks.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Davis could also help pay dividends given his experience as a starter for the Denver Broncos. He led the Broncos in tackles the pat two seasons and is coming off a career-high 134 tackles during the 2019 campaign.

This defense will certainly have its work cut out when they host the Tennessee Titans in Week 3.
