Following the 2016 season, Case Keenum was probably just happy someone wanted to give him a job last season. Getting paid $2 million to be a backup quarterback in the NFL is better than the majority of positions in the real world. Now, following a stellar performance in 2017, his approach is going to be quite a bit different.

He is going to enjoy free agency and take advantage of what it can do for him—and his bank balance.

Keenum was in Houston Monday night for a charity appearance prior to the Houston Rockets-San Antonio Spurs game. He talked to Mark Berman of Houston's FOX 26 about what it feels like to become a free agent this time, via Pro Football Talk.

“It feels really good,” Keenum said, via Mark Berman of Houston’s FOX 26. “It’s a tough league. When you get opportunities like this, you’ve got to take advantage of them, so we’re going to take advantage of it.”

You would think that the Vikings would be pushing to retain him after last season. But according to media reports, it appears the Vikings are going to let him go and sign Kirk Cousins.

To be fair, Keenum has not been very good for most of his career. So, they could be afraid that this season was the exception. Maybe next season he reverts back to the guy that played for the Rams and Texans. Cousins, on the other hand, has more of a track record and is a safer investment.

Keenum will not get anything close to what Cousins will get. But he will certainly get a lot more than $2 million this time around.
