The Minnesota Vikings and running back Dalvin Cook continue to discuss a new contract for the former Florida State Seminoles standout, according to a recent report from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Per Fowler, the talks have been “productive” as the 2020 NFL offseason continues to progress, albeit virtually.

It is also worth noting that Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon and New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, who were also selected by their respective teams back in 2017 like Cook, seem to be in a similar boat as the Vikings running back at the moment.

The soon-to-be 25-year-old Cook has notably spent his entire NFL playing career as a member of the Vikings, who originally selected the veteran rusher in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Florida State.

Although battling the injury bug at times throughout his three-year NFL career, Cook showed exactly how explosive and dominant he could be upon remaining on the field for a single-season career-high 14 regular season games in 2019-20.

During that same span, Cook rushed for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns on 250 carries. Prior to last season, the Vikings rusher tallied 15 regular season appearances, 207 rushing attempts, 969 yards on the ground and a mere four touchdowns.

Because the Vikings now know exactly what a healthy Cook can produce thanks to his efforts from a season ago, perhaps Minnesota will ultimately be willing to dish out some serious cash to a running back — something that has become somewhat taboo in today's NFL.
