The Minnesota Vikings were optimistic about the potential return of running back Dalvin Cook this week. Unfortunately, it appears he may have suffered a bit of a setback at practice.

Cook has been dealing with a lingering hamstring injury over the past several weeks. According to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, he was forced to exit practice early on Thursday:

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, who has missed three of the past four games with a hamstring strain, did not practice Thursday after being a full participant Wednesday. Cook dressed out but left practice during the portion open to the media.

It is unclear whether or not his absence was maintenance-related or simply a precaution taken by the Vikings. Regardless, it is clear that the hamstring is still a bit of a concern moving forward.

Dalvin Cook was expected to make his return last week albeit on a limited snap count. However, his pregame warmup did not go as planned and was ultimately forced to sit out for the second straight game. His chances of playing this week looked much more optimistic after he was able to log in a full session on Wednesday. Unfortunately, this latest setback leaves his status up in the air once again.

Although Minnesota has struggled mightily to develop a strong run game in the 2018 NFL season, they finally managed to do so in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals. Running back Latavius Murray proved to be a viable replacement for Cook after registering 155 yards and a touchdown on 4 carries. Recent events indicate that he could be poised for another heavy workload this week.
