The Minnesota Vikings will host the Green Bay Packers in a crucial NFC North showdown without one of their key offensive contributors. According to Adam Schefter, Dalvin Cook has officially been ruled out against the Packers in Week 16.

Cook exited last week's game versus the Los Angeles Chargers due to a shoulder injury. Following Minnesota's victory over the Chargers, there was some doubt that Cook was going to be able to play versus Green Bay.

To the dismay of Vikings fans, those doubts have turned into reality with the third-year running back being ruled as inactive for Monday night's game. The absence of Cook comes at the worst time as Minnesota attempts to maintain their spot in the playoffs.

Before sustaining the injury, Cook was the seventh-leading rusher in the NFL with 1,135 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. The Florida State product has also supplied the Vikings with 53 receptions for 519 yards as a receiving threat.

Besides Cook, Alexander Mattison is also dealing with an injury heading into Monday's contest. But unlike Cook, Mattison actually has a chance to suit up for Minnesota when the team takes the field versus the Packers.

Mattison is nursing an ankle injury that caused him to miss Week 15 against the Chargers. His status in Week 16 seems to depend on how he looks in pre-game warmups on Monday night.

In the event that Cook and Mattison are out, Mike Boone would draw his first career start in the backfield. Boone was able to rush for 56 yards and two touchdowns after replacing Cook last Sunday.

As of this moment, it is uncertain whether or not Cook will be able to return in Week 17. His designation for next week could be determined by what happens in Week 16's clash with the Packers.
