The Minnesota Vikings and running back Dalvin Cook recently agreed to a five-year, $63 million contract extension.

According to Chris Tomasson of St. Paul Pioneer Press, Cook spoke out about the negotiation process that led up to his new deal.

“They started at what they wanted to start. … Everybody had to just get to a certain point. … We had time to get things done and everybody to see things clearly and we’re both seeing things clearly and I’m a Viking. I’ll be here.”

According to ESPN, Cook's new deal includes a $15.5 million signing bonus and $28.2 million in guaranteed money. Cook also said during his interview that he doesn't mind being the sixth-highest paid running back in the league, despite claiming earlier this year that he's the best in the league. He just “wants to play football and play in Minnesota.”

Back in June, Dalvin Cook reportedly wasn't going take part in team activities with the Vikings unless he received a “reasonable” offer. However, Cook reported to camp with the rest of his teammates July 28 and also played during training camp.

Nevertheless, Cook has proven that he deserves to be one of the highest paid running backs in the league. This past season with the Vikings, Cook recorded 1,135 rushing yards for 13 touchdowns in 14 games en route to a first-time Pro Bowl selection. Furthermore, throughout his three-year career, Cook has broken numerous franchise and NFL records.

The Minnesota Vikings are slated to play their first regular-season game of the season on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
