Dalvin Cook and the Minnesota Vikings have been speaking about a contract extension this offseason. However, both sides have hit an impasse in contract talks. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cook plans to hold out until he receives a new contract from Minnesota.

Not long ago, it was reported by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that Cook and the Vikings have had ‘productive talks' in terms of an extension. Those productive talks have clearly gone awry, prompting Cook to holdout until he gets a deal that he's interested in.

Back in 2017, Cook was selected by the Vikings with the No. 41 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Florida State. Throughout his first two seasons in the NFL, the talented rusher would be sidelined for a total of 17 games due to injuries.

Just this past season, despite dealing with another injury with the Vikings, Cook rushed for a career-high 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns. At the same time, he snagged a career-high 53 receptions for 519 yards in 2019.

In recent seasons, we've seen premier running backs in the NFL receive lucrative contracts from their respective teams. The Vikings can't ignore this. Most recently, Christian McCaffrey landed a massive extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in the league.

Provided that, it's reasonable to believe that Cook wants to see a significant raise from his rookie salary. While he likely won't garner the money McCaffrey made, the former second-round pick believes he is worth more than the Vikings are paying him.

Heading into next season, Cook is slated to make $1.3 million in the final year of his rookie contract. Until that number is in the ballpark of what Cook desires, the Vikings shouldn't expect to see the Pro Bowl running back this offseason.
