The Minnesota Vikings are essentially running it back next season on offense. Most of the core of the offense remained on the team, such as Justin Jefferson, Dalvin Cook, and Kirk Cousins. For them to see improvements next year, they’ll need to undergo evolution in the off-season.

It does seem like the team is already on the path to doing this exact thing. There were recent reports indicating that Dalvin Cook occasionally lined up as a receiver during the Vikings’ practice sessions. When asked about potentially playing more snaps at wide-out, Cook had a rather cryptic response, saying: (via NFL.com)

“We’ll see. I don’t want to sit up here and just tell y’all everything… We got Green Bay Week 1, so we’re gonna wait and see… Seeing something new from Dalvin? Yeah. I’m working my tail off. I’m grinding, putting in all the work I need to put in. So, yeah. Expect the unexpected.”

As Cook mentioned, the Vikings will be facing their bitter rivals in the Packers during Week 1. It makes sense for the star running back to not reveal his team’s cards this early into the season. However, that won’t stop fans from salivating at the thought of Dalvin Cook torching opposing corners on his routes.

Running backs catching passes from their quarterbacks isn’t exactly uncommon. What’s rare, though, is a RB lining up as a wide receiver before the snap, or vice versa. It’s what made WR Deebo Samuel such a special player last season. The Vikings are hoping that they can capture that same magic with Cook.
