The Minnesota Vikings have dealt with penalty issues early this season, and Everson Griffen knows the team needs to clean it up if the team wants to reach their goals this year. Against the New York Giants, the Vikings were penalized 12 times for 112 yards, including one offsides penalty by Griffen.

The Vikings currently have the third-highest total in the league in terms of penalties, and Griffen knows something needs to change.

“We’ve just got to quit shooting ourselves in the foot by getting these penalties,” Griffen said, via the Pioneer Press. “Penalties are big. I looked up the stat [Sunday] night because I was very interested in seeing, and we’ve got 44 penalties. . . . We’ve got to figure out a way to decrease these penalties because they’re going to kill us down the road.”

Griffen knows it's a team thing, but it's something individually he needs to clean up. This season he has done a really good job of guessing the snap count, and it has wreaked havoc on opposing offensive lines.

With jumping the snap counts, Griffen has also been wrong at times, and it seems once or twice a game he gets an offside penalty.

Last season Griffen missed part of the season dealing with a mental health issue, but he is back and playing some of the best football of his career.

On the season he has three sacks, and he would have more if it wasn't for opposing teams consistently scheming to try and take away his production
