Gary Kubiak has spent nearly his entire life involved with the NFL in some way, but took the last two years away from the sidelines. Now back with the Minnesota Vikings, Kubiak revealed that he missed coaching and was hopeful for a return to the NFL.

Kubiak met with the media today for the first time since he was brought onto the Vikings as an assistant head coach/offensive advisor. The job is Kubiak’s first since 2016, when he was forced to step down as head coach of the Denver Broncos due to health related concerns.

Kubiak says that despite the health scares a couple of years ago, he feels fine now, and revealed he had been spending the last two years in the Denver personnel department. While that did keep him close to the sport, Kubiak revealed that he’s “missed” coaching, and that feeling is what led him to begin looking for new opportunities this offseason.

“I knew I wanted to do some more,” Kubiak said (via Pro Football Talk). “When I stepped away from football, I kept working but found I wanted to do more and more.”

According to him, Kubiak will be working with Vikings’ offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski, and while he did note that he won’t be responsible for calling any plays, Kubiak did say that the offensive playcalling would be a “collaborative experience.”

One of the main issues with the Minnesota Vikings' 2018 season was its inconsistency in the offense. While the team fired its previous offensive coordinator, they are now placing their hopes in both Stefanski and Kubiak to turn things around and help the Vikings return to being a powerhouse in the NFC.
