Former Washington Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams is now officially a member of the San Francisco 49ers. After his disgruntled and troubled relationship with the Redskins finally reaching its tipping point, the 49ers managed to swoop in en route to acquiring the veteran blocker's services midway through the NFL Draft while there seemed to be quite a few suitors for Williams — the Minnesota Vikings and general manager Rick Spielman included so it appears.

However, Spielman and company obviously didn't wind up pulling the trigger in the end as Williams ultimately made his way from our nation's capital to the Bay Area.

“We made the best decision for us,” Spielman recently said of his team's involment with potentially landing Williams, via Mark Craig of the Star Tribune. “He ended up in San Francisco, and we ended up with a tackle we really like in the draft.”

Spielman did address his team's glaring need along the offensive front, though, as the Vikings went on to select former Boise State Broncos offensive tackle Ezra Cleveland in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. As a result, Cleveland will now more than likely compete alongside fellow Vikings offensive lineman Riley Reiff for the starting left tackle spot in Minnesota.

The Vikings did reach the postseason and even won a game on the road in upset fashion against the surging New Orleans Saints. However, it won't be an easy road back to the playoffs in 2020-21 as the Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions all still play in the always competitive NFC North division.
