Minnesota Vikings second-round pick Irv Smith Jr. has decided to wear number 84 just like one of the greatest wideouts in NFL history, Randy Moss. Smith who wore 82 in college said his dad wore 84 in college and 82 in the NFL so he thought it would be cool to switch it up.

There has been some push from Vikings fans the last few years to get Moss's number retired so there is no doubt going to be some pushback from fans in his number choice, but if he can live up to the expectations on the field there will be forgiveness very quickly.

Coming out of Alabama there has been talk about how good of receiving tight end that Smith is but he made it clear on Friday that he wants to be known as a complete tight end.

“I’m definitely a versatile tight end,” Smith told the media between the walk-through session and practice. “I feel like I can do all of the things a tight end needs to do well. In-line, be in the backfield, split end, out wide. I feel like I can bring all of those aspects to the team.”

“I don’t want to be classified as a receiving tight end. I want to be classified as a complete tight end.”

Most of what Smith did at Alabama was in the passing game but he also did a really good job of blocking and opening up big holes in the rushing game.

Who knows maybe when it's all said and down the number 84 will have to be retired for Moss and Smith.
