The Minnesota Vikings got some unfortunate news after hearing about the injury of starting tight end Irv Smith Jr., who is expected to be out for quite some time. Well, the Vikings did something to address that on Tuesday.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Vikings have done a trade with the New York Jets to acquire Christopher Herndon.

Now Kirk Cousins and Vikings will have a capable tight end to catch passes until Smith makes his return, whenever that will be.

Herndon spent his first three seasons with the Jets and just could not find any type of rhythm whatsoever. In 2020, he had 31 catches for 287 yards and three scores after playing just one game during the 2019 campaign. But, the Vikings can use him right away as they await the return of Irv Smith Jr.

This isn't a huge trade, but definitely a notable one and the Jets are going to be getting draft compensation of some sort, although the details have yet to be announced on what it will end up being.

The regular season is right around the corner and teams have been trimming their rosters down in order to get to magic number 53 and now Herndon is headed to Minesota.
