Despite their disappointing 2018 campaign, the Minnesota Vikings still have high expectations going into the 2019 NFL season.

At the center of their optimism is quarterback Kirk Cousins, who has struggled to take this team to the next level since his arrival. According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, he still feels that the Vikings should embrace the expectations moving forward:

“Let’s go play football and go win games and set a really high standard. If having a high standard produces expectations that we have to talk about, that’s a good problem to have,” Cousins said. “I hope we get to play for a lot of years where people really are putting a lot on us because they expect a lot out of us because we’ve shown we can do it.”

It is certainly encouraging to see that Cousins' struggles last year have not deterred his confidence in the team. There is no question that he fell vastly short of expectations in his debut season with the Vikings. However, the pressure to perform at a high level is still on.

Minnesota made quite the investment to make Cousins their franchise quarterback. They are hoping he can provide them with much more bang for their buck moving forward.

Of course, there is good reason for Cousins to have high hopes. He boasts one of the most talented wide receiver duos in the league in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Regardless, any amount of success the Vikings enjoy this season will be indicative of his performance.
