Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has become one of the more recent figures from the NFL world to speak out against police brutality and violence against African Americans. On Tuesday afternoon, the Vikings released the following statement on behalf of the team's head coach.

“I want to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of George Floyd as well as the entire community for his senseless death,” reads Zimmer's statement, via the Vikings' official website and social media profiles. “Peaceful protests can help bring change, and we definitely need change so we can all live in harmony. Everyone needs to respect each other's ideas and work together to strengthen, not weaken, our community. I believe our football team is an example of how people from all different backgrounds and experiences can come together for a common goal.”

On the football field, Zimmer and his Vikings continue to improve while even finding some postseason success along the way. Last season, the Vikings went on the road and defeated the surging New Orleans Saints in overtime en route to advancing to the divisional round of the NFC playoff picture. Unfortunately, the Vikings were then ousted from Super Bowl contention by the eventual NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers, who dominated Minnesota in the Bay Area.

Nonetheless, it appears as though Zimmer and company will be back for more come 2020-21 as the Vikings and rival Green Bay Packers will surely be forced to duke it out for the right to be crowned NFC North champion.
