Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer believes the offense took some steps forward this season and they are only a couple of pieces away to take the next step forward. Talking to the media to wrap up the season, Zimmer was asked about many topics, including how the team can prepare going forward next season.

Zimmer also made clear that no matter who is hired as the offensive coordinator will be running the same scheme that the team already has in place.

“I like the scheme,” Mike Zimmer said, via the Pioneer Press. “I like the continuity we have offensively with the coaches, and I feel like if we add a couple more pieces and continue to work on the execution of staying with the same play calls, the same system, the same motions and formations, it’ll definitely help the offensive players.”

Most importantly to start for the Vikings is to figure out their offensive coordinator. Gary and Klint Kubiak are already on staff for the Vikings and either could be candidates.

It's unclear if Gary wants that big of role again, but he doesn't, it would make a lot of sense for the team to promote Klint. The offense ran this year had a big Kubiak influence, so there wouldn't probably be a whole lot of changes.

The Vikings also need to figure out a way to keep Cousins upright, either by upgrading the offensive line or calling more play designs that get him away from the pressure.

If the Vikings can make those few small changes, their offense should be in good shape going forward.
