Mike Zimmer is used to turnover with the Minnesota Vikings. Each of the last three seasons he has had a new offensive coordinator, and he has gone through all kinds of quarterbacks.

Zimmer has really enjoyed his time with new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo and it has been because of the how easy the communication has been between the two guys.

“We can have really open conversations,” Zimmer said via ESPN. “He listens to the things I say would hurt defenses. It’s been really good. I think he’s done a great job with the offense. When I sit in the meetings with them, he does a great job of communicating exactly what he wants. He’s detailed with the work, the plays and alignments, all the different things that they’re doing. We talked about adding more screens, and we ran quite a few more today, so that’s been good. It’s really been seamless.

Not only have they had to install an entirely new offense this offseason, they also have a new guy leading the team at quarterback in Kirk Cousins.

Adam Thielen also likes what he has seen from DeFilippo and he says it has helped that a lot of the verbiage is the same from Pat Shurmur's offense which has made adjusting a lot easier.

“Every offensive coordinator, they have their wrinkles, the things that they like to do,” he said. “[DeFilippo’s personality] is a lot different, but that’s what keeps it fresh. That’s what keeps it fun. We’re excited to keep learning from him.”

DeFilippo is one of the guys who many believe will get a head coaching shot very soon, so who knows, maybe next summer it will be another new offense for Zimmer and the Vikings.
