Since Mike Zimmer came to Minnesota Vikings the kicking situation has always been an issue and heading into cutdown day, they still don't seem to have a clear picture yet.

A few weeks ago the Vikings traded a fifth-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in return for Kaare Vedvik in hopes he would be the answer to the problems. Last week he missed two field goals and on Thursday night he missed another one. The Vikings' other kicker Dan Bailey looked good making kicks from 43 and 54 yards. After the game, Zimmer seemed at a loss of words for how this has played out.

“I don’t know if I’m disappointed in it,” Zimmer said, via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “I know that he hit one. He’s a talented kid, and Bailey came in and kicked well. We’ll just have to evaluate it and see.”

Vedvik also has been trying out of the punting position, and that hasn't gone great either. Last night he gave up a 79-yard kick return and he had a chance to make a tackle but didn't seem too interested in doing that. After the game, Vedvik chalked up the return on the wind causing him to hit a bad kick that was hard for the coverage to defend.

“That ball was slightly inside, which causes you to come in and hit it a little bit left,” Vedvik said. “Slight breeze takes it even further left, which is bad for the punt and it’s even harder to cover.”

If the Vikings hadn't given up a fifth-round pick, Vedvik would probably be the odd man out, but since the team gave up the pick, maybe they will keep him around.
