After losing to the San Francisco 49ers, the Minnesota Vikings are out of the playoffs. The offseason is among them. The change will surely come, but not to one position.

As expected, the Vikings will bring back Kirk Cousins for the third year of his $84 million contract. That should come as no surprise, considering that his $31 million cap hit, per Over The Cap, is fully guaranteed.

“I don’t know what his contract situation is,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said postgame, via CBS Sports. “We’ll worry about that down the road. Today is not the day to discuss it.”

Zimmer reaffirmed that Cousins is their “guy.”

Cousins picked up his first career postseason win in the wild card round, upsetting the New Orleans Saints in the bayou. He went 19-of-31 passing for 242 yards and a touchdown in the contest. The next week, he couldn't pick up a second straight upset, as the 49ers bludgeoned the Vikings to the tune of 27-10, sacking Cousins six times in the process.

In 2019, Cousins passed for 3,603 yards, 26 touchdowns and six interceptions on a 69.1% completion rate. He benefited from playing in a Vikings offense that prioritized the run, with Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison paving the way on the ground.

Though the Vikings' season is now over, Cousins' second season in Minnesota should be considered a success. He went 10-5 as a starter in the regular season, won a playoff game that many thought he wouldn't win and found himself to be an efficient producer. If Minnesota can up their offensive line a little bit next year, he could easily build on his 2019 campaign.
