Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook was forced out of the team’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday with a shoulder injury. Despite this being the second time this season that the running back has had to leave a game due to injury, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer believes it’s nothing too serious.

Speaking to the media (via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport), Zimmer was asked about Cook’s shoulder injury and said that he believes that it’s an issue that could be played through. Zimmer added that the injury “feels good today,” and from the sounds of it, Cook should be ready to play against the Green Bay Packers during their upcoming matchup on Monday Night Football.

Should the running back be able to play, it’ll be a huge boost to the Vikings in what could be the biggest game of the season for both the Packers and Minnesota. Not only are both teams trying to clinch the NFC North division (which the Packers currently lead by one game), but an NFC first-round bye is also still in sight for the Packers.

After suffering through two injury-plagued seasons, including tearing his ACL in 2017, Cook has finally emerged as one of the best running backs in the NFL in 2019. So far, he’s accumulated 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns and has also caught 53 receptions for 519 yards.

Cook’s emergence has come right as the Vikings turned their own season around, after what looked to be a disastrous start for them. However, with the team likely locked into a playoff spot, it’ll be interesting to see if the team is more cautious with him, especially now that he’s dealt with two upper-body injuries in recent weeks.
