The Minnesota Vikings are set for a primetime matchup on Thursday night with the Los Angeles Rams that could be a largely critical game.

In the days leading up to that contest, there has been growing chatter that second-year running back Dalvin Cook will be back in the fold to take the field. According to Tom Pelissero of The NFL Network, head coach Mike Zimmer voiced on Tuesday morning that there is a chance that Cook will play against the Rams.

This comes shortly after Cook stated that he believes that he has a good chance to take the field for Thursday's game. What should be noted is that shortly after he was declared out of last week's game against the Buffalo Bills, he voiced that he would be ready to play the Rams. Cook has been dealing with a hamstring injury that the team has been taking the precautionary approach with handling over the last several days. What may put his availability in doubt is that it's a short week to prepare for the game.

The Florida State product has been utilized as a versatility weapon out of the backfield this year in the first two games with 78 rushing yards on 26 carries along with nine catches for 107 receiving yards. Cook has shown the ability to be a high-impact player in both regards when healthy, which is something he will look to build off once he returns to the fold this season.

If Cook is unable to play once again, Latavius Murray will likely take up the temporary starting job in his place. Murray didn't produce as expected last week against the Bills in what was believed to be a favorable matchup as he rushed for just a yard on two carries while hauling in five catches for 30 receiving yards.
