Fans and media pundits instantly criticized the three-year, $84 million deal Kirk Cousins signed with the Minnesota Vikings in March 2018, and a shaky debut season with the club only seemed to solidify those claims.

But in 2019, Cousins silenced the doubters, and now, he has earned himself a two-year contract extension with the Vikings, according to Mike McCartney of Priority Sports Biz.

The financial terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

Cousins is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he threw for 3,603 yards, 26 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 69.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 107.4, en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

In addition, the quarterback led Minnesota to 10 wins and a playoff appearance. The Vikings would go on to upset the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round thanks much in part to a clutch overtime performance from Cousins before ultimately bowing out to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.

Cousins did not experience nearly as much success in 2018. While his numbers looked alright, with the 31-year-old finishing with 4,298 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 picks while completing 70.1 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 99.7, Minnesota's offense struggled, and Cousins appeared to be the central issue.

The veteran also got off to a rough start this past season, but in October, Cousins righted the ship and even played like a fringe MVP candidate for the remainder of the year.

Cousins spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Washington Redskins before joining the Vikings.
