The Minnesota Vikings saw their strong effort against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 come up short in the kicking game, leading to a 29-29 tie. It didn't take long for the front office to make some changes at the position to provide more stability after releasing rookie Daniel Carlson, opening up the signing of former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl kicker Dan Bailey.

Per Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network:

Although it was quick trigger from the Vikings, Carlson struggled tremendously in Week 2, missing all three of his field goal attempts. This included a 35-yarder with four seconds left in overtime that would have given his team the win on the road in a crucial divisional matchup against the Packers.

Bailey was cut by the Cowboys just prior to the start of the regular season in a surprising move, as he was the starter for the first seven years of his career, putting together some impressive campaigns as one of the most accurate kickers in the league. However, he was impacted greatly by injuries last season, struggling with nagging health issues in the final month of the campaign.

He only made 7-of-12 field goal attempts down the stretch, missing each of his last three tries. During that span, he also missed the first two extra points of his career while finishing 75 percent overall, the first time he fell below 84 percent in any of his first seven seasons.

All of this, along with $3.4 million in salary cap savings, likely led to the Cowboys deciding to move on from him despite the consistent stability he has brought throughout his career. It also opened the door for Bailey to join a potential Super Bowl contender in the Vikings.

Minnesota is hoping he can recapture the previous form that saw him become the second-most accurate kicker in league history at 88.2 percent.
