Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Sunday's crucial Week 17 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, according to reports from NFL Media and ESPN. Cousins is unvaccinated.

Cousins reportedly had COVID symptoms and self-reported them before testing positive. As an unvaccinated player, he gets tested every day.

The Vikings need to beat the Packers to keep their playoff hopes alive, so this is a brutal setback. Backup Sean Mannion has been on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press says Mannion is expected to be activated and will get the start in place of Cousins. The other available options are rookie Kellen Mond and Kyle Sloter, who just signed earlier this week.

It has been quite an eventful week for Minnesota. The Vikings got Dalvin Cook back from the reserve/COVID-list, but they lost Adam Thielen for the remainder of the season because of ankle surgery. Now they're dealing with this mess in the quarterback room ahead of a must-win game.

Minnesota is 7-8 on the season and on life support. It was already going to be tough enough to go into Lambeau Field and win with Cousins, so now it'll be even more difficult with Mannion under center. The Vikings are going to have to dig deep and come up with their best game of the season to beat the top-seeded Packers, who are trying to secure home-field advantage in the NFC.
