The Minnesota Vikings managed to secure head coach Mike Zimmer to an extension this offseason. They were also able to lock up general manager Rick Spielman.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Vikings have reportedly agreed to a multi-year deal with Spielman:

The Vikings are finalizing a multi-year contract extension with general manager Rick Spielman, per sources.

Zimmer was entering the final year of his previous deal before signing a three-year contract extension so it is same to assume that the duration of Speilman's contract will be tied together with his. As a result, the franchise has committed to tasking this pairing with maintaining the team's high expectations for years to come.

Maintaining such continuity at leadership positions should help serve as a stabilizing factor for the Vikings heading into the 2020 NFL season. After all, the restrictions placed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have offered up its own set of challenges for teams trying to move forward with their preparations.

Minnesota will be relying on a bevy of unproven talent to fill the voids left by experienced starters such as wide receiver Stefon diggs, defensive end Everson Griffen, and cornerback Xavier Rhodes. Although Spielman and Zimmer brought in a major haul of talent though the 2020 NFL Draft with wide receiver Justin Jefferson, cornerback Jeff Gladney, and tackle Ezra Cleveland, it remains to be seen if it will be enough to get them over the playoff hump that has stifled them in recent years.
