As the franchise tag deadline for the NFL creeps closer and closer, it appears that the Minnesota Vikings are prepared to let Anthony Davis walk in free agency, according to Anthony Broome of 247 Sports.

The tag deadline is Tuesday afternoon and if the Vikings decide to place the franchise tag on him, it would cost $15.4 million, something the Vikings don't seem interested in.

After paying Kirk Cousins last offseason, the Vikings only are projected to have about $10 million in cap space. The team can redo some contracts and release players to get more cap space, but they aren't going to have a ton to spend this offseason.

Coach Mike Zimmer said at the combine that the team would love to have Anthony Barr and Sheldon Richardson back, but only at the right place.

“With (Richardson), it's the same with Anthony Barr, we'd love to have them both back,” Zimmer said during his media availability at the NFL Combine. “The question is where's the market going to go? Can we afford them? If we can afford them, we're going to bring them back. If we can't afford them, we're going to have to move on, unfortunately.”

Barr has had a nice run in Minnesota, but he is going to get a hefty payday in free agency. Bringing back Richardson at a cheaper price might be the better play if they can only bring one back.

If Barr does end up leaving, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Vikings draft his replacement in the first round of the upcoming draft.
