The Minnesota Vikings have officially named Gary Kubiak as the assistant head coach and an offensive advisor, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Along with Kubiak, the Vikings also hired his son, Klint Kubiak, as the quarterback's coach and Brian Pariani as tight ends coach. There was some confusion on Monday that Kubiak was interviewing for the offensive coordinator position, but that isn't the case and Kevin Stefanski will remain in that position.

Last week it looked like Kubiak might stay with the Denver Broncos as the offensive coordinator on Vic Fangio's staff, but they couldn't agree on a deal so now Kubiak heads to Minnesota.

Kubiak played in three Super Bowls with the Broncos as a player and also led them to a victory in Super Bowl 50 as a coach with Peyton Manning under center. Kubiak stepped down in 2017 as the head coach after dealing with health issues. After a game, Kubiak was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with a complex migraine condition.

It seems he has his health issues figured out and maybe just being an offensive assistant rather than a coordinator or head coach will help take some of the pressure off of him and will help him control the health issues.

This seems like a good hire for the Vikings with Stefanski heading into his first full season as the offensive coordinator. Kubiak will be a guy that can help him develop an offense and also bounce ideas off of. The Vikings are coming off of a disappointing season where they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
