The Minnesota Vikings fell vastly short of expectations in the 2018 NFL season. It appears their only concern at this point is making sure quarterback Kirk Cousins can improve moving forward.

The Vikings have done what they can to shore up a talented roster on both sides of the ball. According to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, general manager Rick Speilman says their focus is still on Cousins.

“A lot of the things we’re doing now (are) … to get Kirk Cousins to go to that next level to do the things he does best,” Spielman told participants Wednesday at the Vikings charity golf outing at The Meadows at Mystic Lake.

The Vikings made quite the investment when they signed Cousins to a lucrative three-year, $84 million contract last offseason. They enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in 2017, and there was optimism that he would be the final piece they needed to lead them to a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, he was unable to follow through on that notion after the Vikings missed the playoffs with an 8-7-1 record.

It is difficult to pinpoint the areas of improvement for Cousins at this point in his career. Unfortunately, there is now a growing stigma that he lacks the clutch gene necessary to help his team win the games that matter most. His track record in such games up to this point is hardly doing him any favors. Regardless, it is clear that Minnesota is still going to do what they can to help take his game to the next level in 2019.
