Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is poised to play in his first NFL game very soon after almost missing his entire rookie season due to a torn ACL. Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has even given the green light already for Cook to get hit in upcoming scrimmages against the Jaguars, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer on how much Dalvin Cook might get hit in scrimmages: “We’re going to do it just like we’ve been doing it in practice. So we’re going to tag off the backs. He’ll get bumps.”

Cook played in only four games last season, but over that brief time, he was able to convince Minnesota that it had found the future cornerstone of the team’s backfield. Right out of the gate, Cook rushed for 127 yards on 22 touches during Week 1 of last season’s 29-19 home win over the New Orleans Saints. Cook would play three more games before getting ruled out for the rest of the campaign due to the said injury.

Getting Dalvin Cook ready for the regular season is paramount to the Vikings, as he’s expected to provide the team’s ground attack a tremendous boost, while also complementing Kirk Cousins and Minnesota’s passing game.

The question of whether Cook can be just as good again as he was pre-injury, however, will not be answered until he takes the field at least in the preseason.

Cook was held out in last week’s 42-28 win over the Denver Broncos, but the Vikings can send him to the field this Saturday in a home game against the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars.
