The San Francisco 49ers are easy favorites to win over the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. Moreover, some are even thinking about how Kirk Cousins got lucky to make it past the Wild Card round and will be in for a rough tussle.

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn't buy into the narrative that Cousins isn't actually an effective quarterback. In fact, he thinks that it's important they keep a tight leash on him by the time the starts on Saturday.

Chris Tomasson of St. Paul Pioneer Press asked about the criticism Kirk Cousins receives on an almost daily basis from analysts and fans alike. All Shanahan could do in the face of all that is laugh and ask why everyone is underestimating him so much.

“I just laugh at it. I think Kirk’s won plenty of big games. I just watch how people look on tape and I go with how good they look, not what their record is on Monday night.’’

Cousins just proved in the wild card round that he can play and win in big-game situations. While his 242 yards and one touchdown against the Saints weren't eye-catching numbers, the fact that he didn't cede an interception is a testament to his skill during big-time situations.

Moreover, Kirk Cousins shared how the team was back at work to do it all over again:

“You get right back to work,” Cousins said, via another Tomasson piece. “We were in (Monday), watching tape, talking about the plan, and (Tuesday) again. … Playing on the road all year long, handling noise, it’s going to be the same this week. You go back to the same things you’ve leaned on for this season, last week, my whole career, of what you’ve got to do to handle the noise and handle an adverse environment.”

The Vikings will give the Niners and the entire NFL a show, and Kyle Shanahan will be ready for it.
