The Minnesota Vikings are expected to undergo some significant changes on the offensive side of the ball this NFL offseason. Aside from their obvious quarterback situation, the Vikings must also address their depth at running back.

Their bid for quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to get a bit pricey. As a result, Minnesota is reportedly expected to ask running back Latavius Murray to take a pay cut for the 2018 NFL season, according to Shawn Zobel of The Sideline Pass:

Vikings are expected to ask RB Latavius Murray to take a pay cut, and if he refuses, word is the team will release him. Murray is scheduled to make $5.15 million in base w/ a $6.35 million cap hit

Murray's tenure with the Vikings got off to a slow start after seeing little action to begin the 2017 NFL season. Then-rookie running back Dalvin Cook quickly established himself as the team's primary workhorse, while running back Jerick McKinnon played a complementary role in the passing game.

McKinnon saw his workload increase following the season-ending knee injury to Cook early in the year. However, it was not long before Murray took over the bulk of the carries. He ultimately wound up finishing with a team-leading 842 yards and eight touchdowns.

Unfortunately, the return of Cook has seemingly rendered Murray back to a complementary role in the Vikings' backfield. Meanwhile, McKinnon is expected to sign elsewhere in search of an increased workload. If Murray refuses to take a pay cut, then he may soon be joining his former teammate in NFL free agency.
