It seems only a matter of time before the Washington Redskins and star offensive tackle Trent Williams part ways.

The two sides have had a contentious relationship for well over a year, and most recently, Williams' agent suggested the Redskins were making unrealistic trade demands after granting Williams permission to seek a trade. However, one NFC North team appears to be high on Williams.

John Keim of ESPN reported the Minnesota Vikings have shown interest in acquiring Williams to upgrade the left tackle spot:

Why the Vikings make sense: Early in the process, the Redskins pegged teams in the so-called window to win now. The Vikings are high on that list and have shown interest in adding Williams. The Vikings signed quarterback Kirk Cousins — Williams' former teammate — to a two-year extension through 2022.

Keim also reported the Vikings–who have limited cap space remaining–might choose to cut current left tackle Riley Reiff in order to clear $8.8 million and clear space to take on Williams' contract. Williams is in the final year of his deal and carries a $14.5 million cap hit, per Spotrac.

Williams did not play during the 2019 season after holding out in hopes of a trade, but he is still regarded as one of the top left tackles in the league. In fact, Williams has not had an overall grade below 75, according to Pro Football Focus.

Not only would Williams give the Vikings an upgrade at left tackle, but he would also fortify the offensive line that–despite the brilliance of running back Dalvin Cook–actually ranked towards the middle of the league in rushing defense-adjusted value over average (DVOA), per Football Outsiders.
